Lion - Tailed Macaque
The lion - tailed macaque gets its name from The tail which is pretty much shaped like a lion's tail . The lion - tailed macaque is a species of macaque mostly native to Western Ghats of South India . It is a mammal with black hair and its outstanding characteristics is the silver-white mane which surrounds the head from the cheeks down to its chin , which gives this monkey its German name ' bartaffe ' - "Beard Ape "
Life span - in wild , The Lion - tailed macaque can live up to 20 years .
Habitat - The natural range of this animal is restricted to the Western Ghats Mountains, located in southwestern part of India. Preferred habitat of the Lion-tailed macaques is broad leaf trees, growing in monsoon forests as well as evergreen and semi-evergreen rainforests.
Diet - The diet of a lion-tailed macaque consists of eggs , leaves , buds , small vertebrates and invertebrates - {insects}.In Indian zoos they are given fruits , sunflower seeds , vegetables , granary bread etc.....
